Boss sues Pearl Modiadie after sex goes wrong – You won’t believe how much he is demanding

The man accused of sexual harassment by former Metro FM presenter Pearl Modiadie has lodged a R1 million counterclaim for loss of income and reputational damage.

Last month, Anthony Soglo, who was Metro FM’s programmes manager at the time of the alleged incident, instituted his counter-salvo at the Johannesburg High Court in reaction to Modiadie’s initial lawsuit.

City Press reported in August that the 33-year-old radio and TV presenter approached the same court, demanding R3.5 million for sexual overtones that she was allegedly subjected to through an email authored by Soglo two years ago.

Last week, City Press further reported that the SABC was defending her claim by arguing that the matter should be brought before the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration, not to the high court.

In Soglo’s papers, the former Metro FM boss denied the sexual harassment allegations and revealed that they cost him a promotion at the SABC.

“On June 3 2021, the first defendant (SABC) made a written offer of employment to the second defendant (Soglo) regarding the position of business manager [at] Metro FM,” read his papers.

Soglo wrote that he accepted a five-year contract offer on June 4 and was set to start on July 1. The contract was worth R1.1 million a year. But, he said, after the allegations surfaced in June, he received a letter from the SABC informing him that the broadcaster was no longer willing to employ him.

“The conduct of the plaintiff (Modiadie) violated Soglo’s constitutional right to being presumed innocent until proven guilty … The plaintiff psychologically affected the second defendant … In August 2021, he started attending counselling sessions with a psychologist.”

Soglo said he bore medical expenses and suffered reputational damage in the eyes of the public, consequently demanding R600 000 for trauma and a further R1 million for reputational damage.

“The amount of R1 million is an estimate amount of satisfaction … to effect reparation for the diminishment of the second defendant’s good name and reputation as a result of the defamation.”

He wants Modiadie to bear the cost of the suit.

Modiadie declined to comment.
